Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha [witness heap, in Aramaic ], but Jacob called it Galeed [ witness heap, in Hebrew. ]
Laban said, This heap is a witness today between you and me. Therefore it was named Galeed.
Heap of witness. The Hebrew name given to a heap made by Jacob and Laban on Mount Gilead as a witness of their covenant (Gen. 31:47–48). The Aramaic name given to it by Laban was Jegar-sahadutha.
